Trinitarian Approach to Ransoming of Captives

The Trinitarian approach to the ransoming of captives was not a military one but it is important to note that the Brothers who carried out the missions were strong, smart men carefully selected using the following criteria:  a) the strength and courage to undertake long and risky travels, b) the skill of planning and effectively carrying out the complex operations of ransoming captives, and c) the shrewdness to deal with the greedy owners of captives.  Those that didn't qualify for the missions had very important positions too:  procurators for the ransom, fund raisers, promulgators of indulgences, preachers and the announcers of upcoming ransom expeditions.
