The two greatest expressions of my ministry as a priest are celebrating the mass/preaching and the sacrament of reconciliation. I find that so many people have had negative experiences in the confessional; I try to bring healing and express God’s loving mercy... which is the intent of the sacrament.
I have been involved in the following ministries as a Trinitarian:
Liturgical coordinator at a parish
Prison retreat ministry
Immigration detention center chaplain
Hospital Chaplain (Johns Hopkins in Baltimore)
Caseworker for a food pantry in Trenton
Currently, I am the Campus Minister at DeMatha, and I assist with Spanish masses on the weekend in the Archdiocese of Washington.
The most memorable moments of my short priesthood have taken place in the confessional. Sharing in someone’s peace that they receive from the Lord at that moment is a grace-filled experience. I also love working with the students at DeMatha. I never know what or who is going to walk through my door. Being able to connect with my students and be there for them at their best and worst moments is a gift.
I am a big fan of Texas BBQ, Asian cuisine, and Tex-Mex. Food is sacred and sharing a meal with someone, no matter what is being served breaks down all kinds of barriers.
I have recently gotten back into biking, so my free time is spent on my recumbent trike exploring the bike trails in and around DC.
During the month of May, please remember Father Josh Warshak, O.SS.T. in your daily prayers!
