What happened to the statue of Christ Redeemer after it was ransomed in 1689? The statue adorned with the Trinitarian scapular was carried in procession through the streets of Madrid before being enshrined in the Triniarian church of the Incarnation, which thereafter began to be known as the church of Jesús Nazareno and the statue became known as El Nazareno.  In 1835, when the Order was suppressed in Spain, the house of Jesús Nazareno became the property of the Duke of Medinaceli who, upon restoration of religious orders in Spain in 1876, entrusted it to the Capuchin Franciscans, who still care for the shrine. This is why the statue is also known as the Christ of Medinaceli.

The crowds waiting to enter the church of Jesus Nazareno on the day of His feast. I read once that the municipality wanted to prohibit the lines which go around the block and cause tremendous traffic jams but they failed to do so.

They take him out on procession every year during the Holy Week.
